Making a good first impression is important to most people. It's the first thoughts we have when meeting someone new. Your home can have a very similar impact on homebuyers. If your house looks like a dump on the outside, most folks won't even take a look inside. When trying to get top dollar for your home, the more buyers you can attract to see your property, the higher chance one will want to purchase it. Here are 6 tips to add curb appeal to your home.

It may be a simple suggestion, but maintaining your lawn can go a long way. A yard that is overgrown with weeds and brush will deflect many "would-be" buyers based on the outside of your home if it looks abandoned. Don't forget to love your lawn, because when it comes time to sell you won't want to deal with it.

2. Install Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor lights are a great way to feature the hard work you have been putting into your lawn. You don't need to hire an electrician to install some fancy system! Use these solar powered outdoor lights to line your driveway or sidewalk. They require no electrical work and can make your home feel more inviting at night.

3. Paint Your Front Door

A fresh coat of paint is a simple way to give the front of the house a pop! Use a color that distinguishes your house from your neighbors. A bright red can add a bit of pop, that will have your neighbors jealous about a project that was so simple for you to complete.

4. Grow a Garden

Not saying you should turn your front yard into farm land, but a few plants never hurt. A few simple flower pots can do the trick! Low maintenance flowers are an easy addition that don't require you to have a green thumb. If you are big into gardening, why not try to hang tomatoes on each side of the entry way.

5. Replace Mulch

Overtime mulch that has been in the elements will loose its color and brightness. If you haven't replaced it, you might want to highly consider it. When comparing a brand new bag of mulch to whatever has been sitting in your yard for the past 5 years you should be able to tell immediately which is better.

6. Add Outdoor Art

Proceed with caution on this tip! What you may consider art, your neighbors and prospective home buyers may have a different opinion. Try to keep it conservative and choose a piece that compliments your homes natural features. If it looks out of place, then it probably doesn't belong!
